Ajna - Jewels
We have selected Ajna (Third eye in Hindu) to illustrate our target to generate more consciousness about what we can bring to Communities in difficulty.
These jewels are created and produced by Namaste Gipsy, a crafters Coop in India. They use Dhokra, also called “Lost-Wax” casting technique, is one of the most ancient forms of metal casting methods of Odisha. It is a traditional technique known to have been used in the making of several artefacts dating back to ancient times.
The Dhokra metal is an alloy of brass, nickel and zinc that gives an antique effect to the castings.
Origins of Dhokra dates back to over 4000 years. It is amongst the oldest traditional techniques of metal casting dates back to pre-historic times of the Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro Civilizations.
After the Industrial Revolution, machine-made goods and textiles have become cheaper than the handmade goods. Through the collaboration with namaste gypsy we present you the collection agna (the third eye) an iniciative to promote handmade jewelry and help out Indian local and tribal artisans to keep the art alive.
